Episode 27 – Fixing Haiti and Matt Kibbe on Deadhead Devotion

Episode 27 is available, hot off the podcasting presses. My guest this week is Matt Kibbe, the president and CEO of FreedomWorks who shares with me his love for The Grateful Dead and explains why entrepreneurship aren’t in it for the money.

I am grateful to my friend Tabitha Hale, who also works at FreedomWorks, for introducing me to Matt at CPAC. It took about ten seconds of hearing him talk before I asked him to come on the show. He’s an economist and, as you’ll learn, a hard-core Grateful Dead fan. I love his take on how the Dead built such a long career and why their work still resonates with music-lovers today.

The first half of the show is, I admit, a bit of a downer. Not only did I take some time to unravel the truth about the Jim Bunning Hates Everybody story, but I also got into Haiti a bit. Taking about conditions in Haiti, not just the mind-numbing death and poverty but also the way the United States has largely ignored how bad things are there, tends to make me angry and that happened a bit on the show. I think it’s important to remember we have a responsibility to give real and lasting help wherever we can and Haiti is right there. It wouldn’t take much to give them a real leg up out of the deep pit they’ve been in for a very long time, now would it? Remember also that my friend Tabitha is still there and could use your help.
