Do What You Want With Your Money, Just Leave Mine Alone
I think it would be rather nice, once day, to be rich. One of the reasons I spent hours each week on The Delivery is to make money. Unfortunately, there are many rich people out there who don’t ever want me to be where they are now. They believe they do not pay a large enough amount in taxes and, instead of simply sending in the money they think they shouldn’t have, they want to use the full power of the Federal government to take my money from me to fuel their social fantasies.
I do not like these people. They are not my friends and they never will be because they want to take my freedom and my future away from me because they believe I am selfish and stupid.
They aren’t Lance Burri’s friends either.
If I was stupid rich, I’d go to Milwaukee and give a scholarship to each and every inner city student who got accepted to an institution of higher learning. Because inner city kids need to know that hard work will get them somewhere, and I don’t think their environment leads them to that conclusion.
What I wouldn’t do is: hand the money over to a vast and faceless bureaucracy that might do something worthwhile with it…and might not.
But, I guess, I’m not a self-made millionaire (yet). I’m not a successful entrepreneur who made a fortune through risk-taking and hard work.
Ironic, that such people would assume they need the government to spend their money more wisely than they can. Offensive, that they would expect the rest of us to do the same:
Offensive, indeed.
